This map comes from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where the Grand Rapids Urban Forest Project (part of the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks), in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids set up a crowd-sourced map of the city’s trees.
The map allows user to enter data on their trees, as well as allowing users to explore the forestry of the City. For example, trees can be filtered by location, or by species to show types or distributions. Users can collect the data in a number of different forms, or look at maps and analyses created by the project sponsors. The map is also embedded in a visually appealing website with simple and intuitive navigation. The widget utilizes Google street networks and satellite imagery displayed using OpenLayers (Link).
