Visualizing Victora’s Groundwater is a Google map web tool for visualizing various aspects of Victoria’s (Australia) groundwater. The tool, built with OpenLayers, provides users with a 13 layers to overlay on a Google map of Victoria. The tool also allows users to choose different basemaps underlying the data layers. Representations of continuous phenomena are displayed as opaque surfaces, and different symbols are used to represent point features. This project is a partnership with a number of different private, public, and academic groups, with certain groups contributing data. The data displayed on the website is variously accessed – some is placed on the host servers, while others are linked to databases managed by the custodians of the data. The aim of the project, which promises to grow in the future, is to provide data in an intuitive web portal for public usage.
