This map of Las Vegas’ residential water usage is an interesting example of visualizing urban utilities data. The map asks the user to input their address information and returns a location with a popup showing the water usage at that address. Users can toggle a water usage choropleth with a pixel-based layer for pools. Unfortunately this map suffers from certain user interface problems. For example, the lack of a zoom bar makes the map difficult to handle. Las Vegas is not already centred on the map. Many locations are either not found, or have no data associated and no information is given as to why. Finally, different browsers produce marked differences in experience, but no notice is given about browser support. This tool was created using Flash.
