The American Migration Map features a visualization of migration patterns of Americans within the US. The map uses data from the IRS to show the amount of people going to different counties from a certain origin. The user chooses a county and the map visualizes all of the connected counties with colours and desire lines. The zone colours, a choropleth, relate to the amount of people entering and leaving the zone, with red as more entering (a destination), and blue as more leaving (an origin). The map also provides further statistics for the zone and graphs and allows the user to turn off the desire lines layer. This is a great example of what is possible with large data sets and can relate to transportation data. The application was created using jQuery and Raphael.
