Not a map today, but still very important, is this infographic on sustainable technology. Mobile devices and laptops require special material inputs (rare earth metals) which come with special problems in obtaining the raw resource. In fact, if new technologies using more available resources (ex. carbon-based materials, i.e., organic) are not found, mobile technologies may become prohibitively expensive. Solutions are batting back and forth, and range from recycling mobile devices and harvesting metals from scraps, to continuing exploration for new ore deposits underwater and in space (pretty out of this world!).
Since many of the web applications featured on this blog operate using geospatial data retrieved from mobile devices, this topic is of great concern. As well, seeing that many mobile device users utilize maps, any stress on the world of mobile devices will inevitably be a stress on mapping and cartography.
