The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) in India has recently come out with this interactive map showing the status and location of all of India’s major train routes. The map displays trains as arrows, indicating direction of movement and location simultaneously. The colour of the arrow relates to whether it is on time (blue) or delayed (red). By clicking on a route of interest, you can see the whole route and all the trains situated on it. The map is updated approximately every 5 minutes and features a search option for finding routes of interest. The legend is also interestingly kept out of the way by placing it behind a dynamic sidebar. The tool was created using Google Maps, as well as linking to a real time database (though, unsure how exactly that happens!). (Thanks to Martin Sykes for the tip).
