Today’s map is a few days old now, but still pretty amazing – 500 million Foursquare check-ins worldwide. The picture above depicts Toronto. The map uses MapBox and some nifty cartography, showing the shapes of countries and cities based on their check-ins. For those of you who haven’t used Foursquare, it is an app that allows you to register your location at certain venues as well as finding out what your friends are up to around you.
Looking at Toronto, it’s obvious to see people concentrating downtown, especially on the west side, down King, Queen, College and Bloor. North along Yonge, you can see important hubs: Yonge and Eglinton especially. Farther west, Roncesvalles is bright, and even farther west, big blotches follow the subway stations (Islington and Kipling especially). Pearson Airport and Sherway Gardens are really prominent too. Interesting stuff!
